Bruce Berne is Higgins Professor of Chemistry at Columbia University. He carried out the first molecular dynamics simulation for particles larger than an atom in the late 1960's. He has been awarded the ACS Award in Theoretical Chemistry and was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Arts and Sciences.

In 1998, he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. Current research areas include chemical dynamics, liquid state theory, developing new methods for molecular simulations, and construction of polarizable force fields.
