Carl Ledbetter joined Pelion Venture Partners in 2003. He has served on the board of nine Pelion portfolio companies. Previously, Carl served on the boards of three public and eight other private companies. Before joining Pelion, Carl was a senior executive in engineering of operations at Novell, Control Data Corporation, ETA Systems, Hybrid Networks, Prime Computing, Sun Microsystems, and IBM. Also, Carl was President of AT&T's Consumer Products Division. He was a dean and a professor of mathematics at universities on both coasts. Carl has been a leader in the computer industry in many ways. He was Chairman of the Governor's Task Force on the Computer Industry of Minnesota under the administrations of two governors; he was a member of the board of directors of the Wireless Industry Association, and completed a term as a member of the Technology Advisory Committee to the Joint House-Senate Committee on Science and Technology. For five years, he was a member of the board of directors of the Rocky Mountain Venture Capital Association and served as Treasurer of that organization. He has been the invited keynote speaker at more than twenty international conferences on supercomputing, computer networking, computer security and encryption. As the holder of six patents in computing and telecommunications and the former CEO of a venture-backed startup himself, Carl has firsthand knowledge of what it’s like to run a young company in the technology sector. He acts as the firm’s technology expert and often lends his technical, engineering, and operating expertise and provides industry connections on behalf of their portfolio companies. Carl earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from Clark University, his Master's degree in mathematics from Brandeis University, and a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Redlands.
