Maxim Poletaev was born on April 6, 1971, in Yaroslavl.

In 1993 he graduated from Yaroslavl State University with a degree in Accounting, Control and Business Analysis. Higher education in finance, proficient in English and German.

In 1993–1995 he served as an assistant at the Chair of Economy, Organisation and Planning of Production of Yaroslavl State University.

In 1994–1995 he underwent training at savings banks in Germany (Sparkasse, Kassel).

In August 1995 he was appointed Head of Analysis and Marketing Division, Severny Bank of Sberbank of Russia. Later he headed the Resources Allocation and Securities Management Division.

In March 2000 he was promoted to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Board of Yaroslavl Bank of Sberbank.

In September 2002 he was appointed Head of Sberbank’s Baikal Bank.

In 2009 he was appointed Vice-President, Director of the Corporate Development Department of Sberbank of Russia.

Since October 2009 he has served as Chairman of Moscow Bank of Sberbank.

In March 2013 Maxim Poletaev became a Member of the Executive Board of Sberbank of Russia.

In June 2013 he was appointed First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board where he runs the Retail, Corporate, Territorial and Welfare Blocks of Sberbank.
