Michael is the co-founder and Executive Chairman of the Chertoff Group, which provides high-level strategic counsel to corporations and governments on a broad range of security issues as well as identifying and investing in early stage technology companies.

He served as the second Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush.

Michael previously served as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, as a federal prosecutor, and as Assistant U.S. Attorney General. Michael is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College (1975) and Harvard Law School (1978).
