Prior to founding Metabiota in 2008 Nathan served as a full Professor at UCLA. He was awarded the National Institute of Health Director’s Pioneer Award in 2005. In 2009 he was chosen as a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and in 2010 he was elected a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. He was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2011. Nathan has published over 100 articles and chapters. His work has been published in or covered by Nature, Science, PNAS, JAMA, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Economist, The WSJ, Wired, NPR, and Forbes among others. His first book, The Viral Storm has been published in six languages and was shortlisted for the Royal Society’s Winton Prize.
