Philip Bilden joined HarbourVest in Boston in 1991 and relocated to Hong Kong in 1996 to establish the Firm’s Asian subsidiary. In January 2012, Philip became a Senior Advisor after 20 years service to the firm and 15 years managing HarbourVest Partners (Asia) Limited, which supports HarbourVest’s investment and client service activities in the Asia Pacific region and other emerging markets. Philip continues to reside in Hong Kong with his family and focuses on strategic relationships in Asia. In 2011, Philip received the Asia Venture Capital Journal Special Achievement Award, which recognizes an Asian private equity professional who has had a distinguished career over at least one decade in promoting and assisting the growth of the Asian private equity and venture capital industry.

Philip has served on the advisory boards of several international private equity partnerships, including funds managed by Archer Capital, Bain Capital Asia, Brait Capital Partners, Castle Harlan Australian Mezzanine Partners (CHAMP), KKR Asia, Olympus Capital, Pacific Equity Partners, TPG Asia, and Unitas Capital. He serves as the inaugural Chairman of the Asia Advisory Council for the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA).

Philip received a BS in Foreign Service (magna cum laude) from Georgetown University in 1986 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1991.

Philip serves on the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, the Asia Pacific Advisory Board of Harvard Business School, and the Board of Directors of the United States Naval Academy Foundation. Philip is active in several philanthropic and non-profit organizations including: No Greater Sacrifice, Advisory Board; Rhode Island Arts Foundation at Newport, Inc., Board Member; International Yacht Restoration School, Advisory Council; Newport Historical Society (former Trustee); The Naval War College Foundation; Hope Funds for Cancer Research; Aquidneck Island Land Trust; and Save the Bay.
