Robert M. Okabe is the current President and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Angel Resource Institute. He has been actively involved with early stage enterprises on multiple levels for over fifteen years.
Mr. Okabe made his first angel investment in 1996 and has completed fourteen deals with four positive returns of capital. He was a co-founder of Prairie Angels in the Chicago area and a manager of the affiliated Prairie Angels Capital Fund.
Robert is a principal of RPX Group LLC, a consultancy focused on assisting universities, research institutions, and corporations with spinning out some of their innovative technologies as startup companies. RPX Group’s clients include global top 100 universities, Fortune 1000 companies, and federal laboratories.

He became a lead instructor of the Angel Resource Institute’s Power of Angel Investing programs in 2008 and has led education and training sessions in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Turkey. As a speaker Mr. Okabe has participated in programs managed by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in Russia, the US Department of State’s Global Innovation in Science and Technology program in Morocco, and the 2012 Global Entrepreneurship Congress in the UK.

The core of his experience with growth companies was developed in the corporate world. He has worked for numerous multinational banking and financial organizations including BancAmerica Robertson Stephens, Lehman Brothers, Kidder, Peabody, and General Electric.

Robert has has guest lectured at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and was a member of the adjunct faculty of the University of Illinois College of Business. He was awarded his Bachelor of Science in Finance and Organizational Behavior, cum laude, from Boston University’s School of Management.
