Steve Kuhn is an American financial executive with over 20 years of experience. He is Partner at Pine River Capital Management LP. Kuhn has previously held positions at Cargill, Citadel LLC and Goldman Sachs.

Steve Kuhn matriculated at Harvard and studied game theory, statistics, and microeconomics, earning his bachelor's degree in economics with honors in 1991.

After completing his degree in 1991, Steve Kuhn accepted a position with Cargill as a mortgage-backed securities trader. He later joined Citadel Investment Group as a trader of Japanese convertible bonds. After leaving Citadel, he transitioned to Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he became a vice president and portfolio manager.

In 2008, Steve Kuhn joined Pine River Capital Management as the head of Fixed Income Trading. Steve Kuhn received full partner status at Pine River in 2009. He continues to play a vital role in the firm's activities and was named co-CIO in 2013. Kuhn has found success in dealing subprime mortgage-backed securities. Kuhn is currently Partner and Portfolio Manager for Pine River.

Under Kuhn’s leadership, in 2009 the Pine River Fixed Income fund achieved a return of 93%. The Pine River Fixed Income Fund was ranked second in Bloomberg’s 100 top performing hedge funds in 2013.

Kuhn supports a number of charities including Invest For Kids and Portfolios with Purpose. He is a Board Member for the Andy Roddick Foundation, an organization that focuses on creating programs that can help children stay engaged when outside of the classroom. Kuhn is also a supporter of the Robin Hood Foundation, and hosted a Pine River poker event in 2012 that raised more than $500,000 for the organization. He also won Bloomberg TV’s “Poker Night on Wall Street” in 2013, an event with $50,000 buy-in to benefit his charity of choice, the Robin Hood Foundation. Kuhn matched the winnings with an additional donation to the foundation.
