Tom Boldt leads the actuarial, analytics and reporting functions at Accolade. Since our founding in 2007, he has been part of the team that has guided our company in defining and introducing a new way to experience healthcare.Back in 2007, when he talked to CEO Tom Spann about the company’s vision, he realized this was a service that could really improve health outcomes, reduce costs and improve productivity. “It took me over 20 years, but I finally realized that moral hazard really wasn’t the driver of excess healthcare spending,” says Tom “The real root causes are consumers who don’t have accurate and understandable information about the choices for them--and the difficulty of decision-making when you’re sick or injured.”Tom has more than 26 years of actuarial experience. Prior to joining Accolade, he was chief actuary at Definity Health (United Health Group). Before filling that role, he had served as Actuarial Consultant at Towers Watson and at Mercer, and started his career as a group actuary for Northwestern National Life Insurance.Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematical statistics from the University of Iowa. He is also an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.Tom is an avid bicyclist, traveler and devoted family guy. He and his wife, Betsy, have three almost-grown children: Taylor, Emily and Austin.
